Kirsten's passion for photography really came to the fore when she was teaching for many years in Nairobi, Kenya. She took advantage of her location to travel extensively throughout Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, specialising in photographing the tribes-people and their way of life.
She wanted to record tribal life, to depict the contentment of the people and to capture their beauty and elegance. Her sensitive approach allowed her to gain the trust of the tribes-people she visited and was welcomed into numerous communities and tribal villages. A large selection of these images have since been used to promote an African charity in the form of a television advertisement. She is also in the process of producing large photographic documentaries through publication.

Kirsten was an official photographer for the international Kenyan Safari Rally for two consecutive years. As a team leader, she was responsible for producing stills and video footage of the rally and for interviewing and photographing the top international rally drivers.
Kirsten's teaching role then took her to Trieste, Northern Italy, where once again she used the opportunity to travel extensively. She explored Italy, Slovenia and Croatia, recording the way of life in the villages and towns and attending a host of festivals and markets.
Her collection of fine art images was further increased by working in Provence where she had the opportunity to travel throughout much of the south of France, soaking up the atmosphere, and capturing the sights and colours of the region.

Now working as a freelance travel photographer, Kirsten travels abroad from her home in Dorset, where she lives with her photographer husband and two small sons. They also run a new innovative baby photography business ‘Diddipix’, incorporating ‘Diddipix Travel’ as a photographic service for those wishing to promote their holiday homes with top quality professional photographs .

Kirsten Wheeler has gained associateship status with the British Institute of Professional Photographers, The Royal Photographic Society, The Master Photographers Association, and the Society of  Wedding and Portrait Photographers. She also holds an honours degree in Education.
Kirsten has gained numerous prestigious awards and plaudits for her work within the photographic world, and has had many of her images published.
